Rhythm Trek Vacations

Ian often performs, studies, and teaches abroad in a warm place during the winter months.  Check back here for information on how you can join him on his next adventure and have your own (non-virtual) musical adventure.  Examples of potential future trips are cruises with Holland America Line where you can study dance and steel drum with Ian and a visit to the very cultured city of Merida in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

RECENT RHYTHM TREKS

The most recent Rhythm Trek cruises were on the MS Ryndam and, in addition to all that on board fun that the ship offered, included visits to some great Caribbean destinations, including Roatan, Honduras, Santo Tomas, Guatemala, and Costa Maya, Mexico.  From a musical perspective, the stops in Honduras and Guatemala offered glimpses into the unique and wonderful Garifuna culture, which has a very profound musical culture that features drumming.  Costa Maya has it's own fascinating music based on the Mayan culture.  Best of all, cruisers got the chance to study steel drums with Ian!  Holland America has many extra steel drums on board so everyone who wanted got the opportunity to try it out and learn some basic songs and technique.

Ian has found that winter is an ideal time to take a break from the Pacific Northwest. That is why he also spent part of the winter of 2012 performing and teaching steel drums on Holland America’s Statendam on a cruise through the Caribbean and Panama Canal and all along the Pacific Coast of Central America and Mexico.
